British Vogue's February issue is on sale today with regular coverstar Natalia Vodianova pretty in pink wearing a frothy, frou-frou Fendi dress, shot by favourite photographer Nick Knight.
With Carine Roitfeld's outstanding creative vision at Vogue Paris, Vogue Italia going from strength-to-strength in the international market with their blossoming artistic direction, experimental cover shoots and iconic black issue, the visionary Anna Della Russo at Vogue Nippon causing a stir at fashion weeks with her attention-grabbing style, Vogue India steadily gaining worldwide credibility with beautiful coverstars like Freida Pinto in 2009 and Anna Wintour reigning supreme as Fashion Queen with her loving, loyal readership, it seems Vogues in all corners of the world are cementing their status as leaders of the fashion world and pushing boundaries and we're… not.
I think it's time Alexandra Shulman breaks from the safe mould of a girly, pretty pink palette, generic portrait framing, rotating her favourite supermodel faces, who always wear the same established houses on the cover - which is always shot by Nick Knight - leading to a generic, tried and tested look for what once jumped out from the newstand.
June 06: pastel and pink
It's a new year and I'd love to see Vogue UK experiment with bold direction in a refreshed, reinvigorated style, showcasing young talent, new faces and the future of fashion.
February issue: B+, Shulman; must try harder.
