This week I attended modern furniture retailer Dwell's press preview for its upcoming AW12 collections. Amongst my favourites was this excellent stainless steel movie set-style tripod spotlight on sturdy black legs, which came in table lamp and standard lamp heights. I will almost certainly be choosing one of these...
Other highlights were the fabulously ugly crockery decorated with black beastly creatures - I think I'd rather buy these to mount on the wall in a modern, monochrome take on wall plates (your mum had these too, right?) rather than use them for dinner - I wouldn't want to finish a meal with a realistic gnarly octopus illustration in sight...
There were plenty of simple designs in black and white including clever, space-saving pieces like this chesterfield footstool in handy wipe-clean white leather (also comes in black) with storage inside.
The glass candle displays were great for a minimal, chic table dressing suitable for Christmas with a classic white and silver theme but not too OTT that you couldn't use them year round.
