Last weekend I wandered into Fitzrovia in the sunshine for brunch at the Scottish restaurant Mac & Wild with a friend. Founded by Scotsman Andy Waugh from The Wild Game Co. after five years of Borough Market stalls, supper clubs and pop ups, Mac & Wild is famed for its 100% wild venison and seasonal game straight from the Scottish Highlands.
The short menu is a meaty affair, focusing on modern British meat and seafood with all the venison and game sourced from Waugh's family butcher business in Ardgay and the rest of the produce coming from local estates and farms. As we were there to try out the new Wild Brunch Club menu, we ordered a few eggs dishes to share with some prosecco for a good girly catch up: one of my favourite weekend activities.
We went for the delicious warm venison scotch egg from the "wee plates" selection of snacks followed by a fresh heritage tomato salad with goat's curd, baby gem lettuce, radish and toasted sourdough bread. The pine cured salmon and pepper dulse scrambled eggs on sourdough toast was good and the kedgeree with smoked trout, soft boiled egg and seaweed was the standout dish for me.

The decor is cosy and masculine with rustic wooden tables, black and white hunting photos and hanging racks on the exposed brick walls, a stag outside the door and a back wall filled with a vast selection of whisky. There are dozens of bottles of scotch, single malts, blends and cocktails to choose from: we tried the Forager cocktail featuring 12 year old Glenkinchie infused with heather, honey, barrel-aged bitters and foraged pine leaf tincture. We left with that warm buzzy feeling you have from drinking spirits during the day, planning a return to try out the famous venison burger and some more deliciously potent whisky cocktails...
