The New Look AW11 press show last week showcased the high street store's upcoming collections including 'Electric Lady'. The seventies-inspired collection features lots of satin, faux-fur, delicate lace and an autumnal palette of deep plums and scarlets, midnight navy and glossy cobalt, brown tweeds and rich greens. Here are my favourite picks.
The 'Cocktail Bird' collection focuses on fun, inexpensive evening wear in a grown up palette of nude fabrics with delicate beading, pleating and lots of embellishment. There are beautiful party dresses in muted colours: midnight blue silk, bronze sequins, taupe satin, mustard yellow chiffon and brown beads.
Long-sleeve sequin dress in matte Champagne gold with a gorgeous backless neckline
Amazing Miami Vice-style coral pink blazer - love the 80s cut, long lapels and low single button
Black, "gold" and "crystal" tiger ring... I couldn't resist
white faux fur coat
Pom pom hooded scarf in black
Embellished jacket in zebra print sequins
The badass jacket above is from the Idol range which features animal prints, hella glam-rock sequins, sexy high hemlines, rock'n'roll leather fringing and show-stopping hero pieces. Perfect for party girls and zebra fans.
The 'Modernist' collection is more 60sish (hooray!) with a neutral, masculine palette and features modish colour blocking. This range seemingly takes inspiration from Burberry's latest collection of leather-trimmed pieces including New Look's very own trench with leather sleeves and piping.
Leather-embellished 60s shift dress in a gorgeous taupe colour
My favourite item: a feminine pleated chiffon nude, red and black dress perfect for work and dressing up after hours
High-shine leather platform wedge shoe boots with moccasin front... They remind me a little bit of school shoes, but clumpy can be cool!
All in all, a great upcoming season of plenty of wearable, covetable and very reasonable purchases... Roll on September.
