French brand Petit Bateau has been making quality cotton T-Shirts and underwear for more than 120 years in their Troyes factory in the Champagne region of France (where I spotted this breton stripe wall; how French). Karl Lagerfeld sent Claudia Schiffer down the Chanel catwalk at Paris Fashion Week in 1994 wearing a kids PB tee, so the house swiftly followed into womenswear to cater for demand.
The ideal basic t-shirts are made from soft 100% cotton in every shape, size and colour - there are 30 colours each season - with different collars, sleeves, lengths and thickness, from second skin jersey to tight knit rib textures. And unlike other brands, these tops don't run, fade, pill or lose their shape. There's a reason why 3.4 million Petit Bateau T-Shirts are sold worldwide each year - they're a wardrobe essential for every woman.
