Last night I attended the most glamorous night of the year in London: the British Fashion Awards held at the Coliseum in Covent Garden. We had dinner at Asia de Cuba then faced the drizzle on the red carpet before a Champagne reception and taking our seats. I got back late from San Francisco the night before so had a lunchtime blowdry at Millimetre Salon on Mortimer Street: I may be jetlagged and look tired, but at least I have shiny curls! I wore a navy blue lace from British brand Jones + Jones and pink lace up McQueen heels.
The crowd was a who's who of the international fashion industry: Anna Wintour (sunglasses off) presented the Outstanding Achievement award to Karl Lagerfeld (sunglasses on, obviously), sat next to them were the Beckhams in matching his-and-her suits, Lady Gaga wore a long red custom Tom Ford gown to accept the Red Carpet award on his behalf and Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley looked gorgeous in a shimmering Burberry gown presenting the Emerging Womenswear Designer, Emerging Menswear Designer and Emerging Accessory Designer awards with Nick Grimshaw to Thomas Tait, Grace Wales Bonner and Jordan Askill respectively.
The International Designer award went to the the new Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, who sat with Selma Hayak in a sequin ruffle custom Gucci gown and her husband François-Henri Pinault, badass Game Of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie thanked boyfriend Giles Deacon in her Red Carpet Ambassador award acceptance speech, presented by Kate Bosworth in a pale blue fussy dress by Establishment Designer award winner Erdem, Rita Ora wore black velvet, Charlotte Dellal looked like a total bombshell in a figure-hugging red dress with her signature 40s waves to collect the Accessory Designer award for Charlotte Olympia and for the first time ever, the Womenswear Designer of the Year and Menswear Designer of the Year awards were won by the same person: JW Anderson.
With a new choppy fringe bob and questionable babydoll and cape Burberry outfit, Naomi Campbell presented Christopher Bailey with the Creative Campaign award, Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing presented his friend and #BalmainArmy girl Jourdan Dunn with the Model of the Year award, The Isabella Blow Award For Fashion Creator was presented to Nick Knight by Karlie Kloss in a sheer metallic Chanel gown, Lily Allen spoilt her chic silver blue Chanel dress with a big blue Supreme hoody (although in fairness, it was cold), and - my highlight of the evening - Ab Fab's Patsy and Eddie presenting the Brand award to Stella McCartney. After a couple of drinks at the afterparty at the St Martins Lane hotel next door I called it a night. And what a fun night it was.
