Prague was high on my list of places to go for a while and we finally got around to visiting a couple of months ago. I bought my boyfriend flights for his birthday present last September and we went the last weekend of January after a pretty hectic start to the year with skiing in Val Thorens and a work trip to NYC during the snowstorm. We arrived early Friday evening and got a taxi from the airport straight to our home for the weekend, the chic Hotel Josef.
Built in 2002 by London-based Czech architect Eva Jiricna, the independent boutique hotel is centrally located in the medieval Staré Město (Old Town) area by Tyn Church, Republic Square and the astronomical clock. With a modern glass facade and colourful lobby and bar, the 4-star design hotel has 110 clean, minimalist rooms spread over 8 floors with large king size beds, a glass wall bathroom filled with Orla Kiely geranium toiletries, rainfall showers and fluffy towels, and a balcony overlooking the street below.
Breakfast is served in an airy cafeteria with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the garden, with an excellent buffet including freshly-baked breads and pastries by French chef Jullian Hequet in the on-site boulangerie, fruit juices, smoothies, aromatic coffee and a la carte options. If you're looking for a stylish, central place to stay for a weekend break in the Czech capital, Hotel Josef does the job nicely.
