PROMS IN THE PARK

Two weeks ago my bestie and I headed over to Hyde Park to attend the UK's largest outdoor classical music concert for the first time dressed up in our raincoats and wellies.  Of course it was raining.  How very British...

The Last Night of the Proms was one of my highlights of last year - I loved all the cheerful flag-waving, the Prommers' traditions, the crowd from all over the world delighted to have won ballot tickets and the tear-jerking classics (I cannot listen to Jerusalem without crying),  The atmosphere was spectacular. During the evening a big screen behind the orchestra showed shots of massive crowds singing along from Hyde Park in London, Glasgow Green, Titanic Slipways in Belfast and Colwyn Bay in Wales so this year we went for a piece of the action in Hyde Park.

This was the twentieth year of the Proms in the Park, which had a line-up across the classical and pop worlds from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (obsessed since watching Jersey Boys) to All Saints (OMG childhood favourite) and Juan Diego Flórez (who hot-footed it over the road to perform at the Royal Albert Hall shortly after), Alfie Boe and the Royal Choral Society who all performed performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra.  We took a couple of Pimms cans to tick off another British classic, drank champagne in the BBC bar and waved our flags along with 40,000 other attendees until the last note of the national anthem.  What a way to end the summer.
