After four days in Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam, we took a flight to the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh for a few days, then drove north to go temple-hopping in Siem Reap and took a flight back over to Vietnam for a few days in Hanoi. In HCMC, we stayed at the chic Intercontinental Asiana Saigon and decided to stay at the Intercontinental in Hanoi too, situated just outside of the centre on the largest lake in the city.
We ummed and ahhed about choosing a hotel which wasn't in the middle of the sightseeing action, but actually it was nice to escape the hustle and bustle, jump in a quick cheap taxi and relax at our peaceful lakeside haven. The spacious, luxurious five star is decorated in a contemporary Vietnamese style with dark wood, rich textures and vibrant colours. Our superior room had a comfortable king size bed, large bathroom with walk-in rain shower and a private balcony overlooking the lake. We had fresh fruit, pastries and Asian delicacies for breakfast at Café Du Lac and nightcap cocktails at the panoramic Sunset Bar on the water. I loved exploring the charming Vietnamese capital: it's vibrant yet elegant, has plenty of historical and cultural attractions, it's verdant and surrounded by lakes, and I have about 100 photos to share with you in the next post from our trip...
