I'm baaack! My little blog hiatus is over, as I returned from Peru on Monday (I have so much to share with you) and the jet lag has just about subsided, so I thought I'd jump back into things with a cheeky little cheap eats recommendation. A few weeks ago, I met my boyfriend in the city for a casual Thursday night dinner at The Otherist from the guys behind Drake & Morgan.
Located near Broadgate Circle and Liverpool Street, The Otherist is a new bar and restaurant serving up drinks and simple British food to the after-work crowd with cool decor and a lively atmosphere. We started with an aperitif in the bar - a lovely glass of Justerini & Brooks private cuvée Champagne for me, an old fashioned for him - before sitting down at our table with a little dish of juicy green nocerella olives and ordering a bottle of Source Gabriel cotes de Provence because YAY rosé season is here.
We shared two starters: the crispy squid with lemon mayonnaise and the delicious broad bean and ricotta sprinkled with mint on crunchy toast. I must replicate it. For mains, we went with a 10oz rib eye steak with chunky cut chips and watercress, and halved a chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream drizzled with warm chocolate sauce for dessert. Now excuse me whilst I pop to the supermarket to pick up some broad beans and ricotta...
