I went to Warsaw for a work trip in October, and decided to go a couple of days early to visit the places I loved when I went in 2013, and discover some new favourites. One of those was the modern Polish restaurant, Rozbrat 20, where I had a wonderful solo lunch.
Listed in the Michelin Guide, the cosy café/ bakery/ all-day dining restaurant serves simple bistro dishes alongside an impressive 200+ wine list, with elegant decor and a buzzy, relaxed vibe. On arrival, I was shown straight to my table and sat down on a mustard yellow velvet banquette with a glass of biodynamic Fleury champagne, and a basket of three types of excellent homemade bread with a little pot of butter.
My first dish was the delicious fresh trout with watermelon, capers and horseradish ice cream, sprinkled with dill. It was refreshing, with the surprising fruity taste, and delicious. Next, I had one of the best steak tartares I’ve ever had (and it wasn’t in France - ça alors!) served with lovage, mushroom and crunchy mustard seeds, paired with a glass of 2015 Chablis from Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin. I then had the zander fish with crawfish, turnip and watercress, sat on a few ribbons of tagliatelle in bisque with vegetables and crunchy rice crisps, which was tasty, refined and a lovely mix of textures. For dessert, I had the salted caramel with vanilla ice cream and a crunchy piece of aerated chocolate. Four beautiful courses, two glasses of great wine, one very happy (and full) girl. If you're heading to Warsaw, it's one for your address book.
